Courses booked for the 2007 season
The following information is provided to give you a flavour of the courses we will be playing this year. Where possible, there are links to an appropriate descriptive web page hosted and maintained by Golf Today and also a link to a "google map". It's quite likely that I will have "lifted" any descriptive text from one of the linked pages. I will clearly highlight any such quoting.Check out the bottom of the page for a survey where you can vote for the best course we have played so far this season. I'll reset it after each match, so you'll have to keep voting.
Boothferry Golf Club
Here's a course that used to be a regular on our itinerary. After a few years absence we visited again last year. We obviously enjoyed it enough to come back this year too.

Designed by the legendary modern day golf course architect Donald Steel, Boothferry Golf Club is one of the most enjoyable meadowland courses in Yorkshire and is often the focal point for many visiting golfers.

Crookhill Park Golf Club
Our "home" course, located in Conisbrough. An excellent municipal course, well worth a visit. The quality of the greens is generally outstanding. The par 4 11th requires a good, accurate drive to have a chance at the raised green, protected on three sides by trees.

An 18 hole course situated amidst one of the largest and finest municipal parks in the country. The course, covering 48 acres, is open during most days of the year and is a "pay as you play" facility with no requirement for membership. Lessons are available on request.

Kilton Forest Golf Club
An open course, forgiving to wayward shots. The greens are a mixed bag and the bunkers are poor. All told, not one of my favourite courses. That said, it drains well so is a good choice for early or late in the season.

The 18 hole par 72 course is both challenging and friendly to experienced and novice golfers alike. Visitors are most welcome and can warm up before play on our superb landscaped putting green and chipping area.

Lincolnshire Golf Club
The golf course formerly known as Hirst Priory. With water coming in to play on a number of holes, this can be quite challenging.
Quoted from http://www.englishgolf-courses.co.uk
Top quality courses are easily the most popular with wannabe golf pros who want to test their skills on the sort of courses that the pros take on. Few in Lincolnshire come close to rivalling that at The Lincolnshire Golf Club, a truly fabulous long design that has plenty of challenges waiting to judge exactly how good a player you are.

Malton and Norton Golf Club
One of our away-day courses so, quite reasonably, a cut above the normal courses we play. A 27 hole course, it offers plenty of variety at a consistently high standard.

Designed by Martin Hawtree & Son, Malton and Norton Golf Club first opened its doors to golfers in 1910 and, ever since, has been a popular venue for fans of the game in Yorkshire.

Normanby Hall Golf Club
A excellent municipal golf course, there can't be many better. There are a number of notable holes, including "The Devil's Elbow".
Quoted from http://www.northlincs.gov.uk
The par four, 16th hole 'devil's elbow' is regarded as Normanby's feature hole. This 90 degree dog-leg hole requires an accurate tee shot to the corner, with another needed to tackle the approach to the green over a ravine and through an alley of trees. Again, thoughtfully positioned bunkers are ready to catch any wayward shots.

The Oaks Golf Club
This is a new one for me. Proposed for the first time this year for our summer away-day. From what I hear and read on-line, it should be worth waiting for.

THE COURSE - Par 72. A parkland course with all greens and tees built to full United States Golf Association specifications, set amongst a mixture of mature and more recently planted woodland. There are seven water features, all coming into play. The half way house is a log cabin with refreshments and a patio overlooking the tenth tee and lake.

Thorne Golf Club
Not a long course, but quite tight, well worth a visit. Personally, I enjoy playing here. The one critisism I have relates to how busy the course tends to be on a Saturday. We generally end up teeing off 15 minutes or more after our tee time.
Quoted from http://www.englishgolf-courses.co.uk
Designed by Richard Highfield, the course may not be the longest in the region - it measures only 5366 yards over eighteen holes - but it is still a fine challenge for golfers of all levels of ability, and benefits from a picturesque setting that makes a fine environment to enjoy golf in.

Thornhurst Park Golf Club
There has been a lot of work on the course over the past few years, including the creation of a new 10th hole (a short par 3) which removes the long walk from the 9th green to the 10th tee. The second hole is a tight dog-leg through a wood. This requires an accurate iron shot to avoid being blocked-out for your approach to the green.
Quoted from http://www.englishgolf-courses.co.uk
Some of the greens are particularly well-guarded and water comes into play on a handful of the holes, so be sure to shoot accurately and confidently because stray shots will most likely be punished.

Wath Golf Club
An excellent course, one we play year after year. The quality of the course is second only to the service in the club house.

There are plenty of natural and man-made hazards here for you to get your teeth stuck right into, and the rewards are there to be had if you play it wisely and maintain your concentration as best you can. There are some very small greens, which will test the accuracy of your iron play to the full.
