About Us
The Red Lion Golf Society is made up of a fairly diverse group of people who, not surprisingly, enjoy golf.
We meet every other Wednesday evening in the Red Lion pub in Conisbrough.
There are 20 or so society matches throughout the year. These are generally 18-hole matches played on Saturday mornings. In addition, we play 3 "away-day" 36-hole matches, generally on Fridays.
Meetings
Although the meetings are an informal social occasion, there is some sort of structure to them.
Before the meeting starts, the Treasurer will collect "subs" and the Secretary will ask for members to confirm whether they will play at the next match. Once the Chairman calls the meeting into some semblance of order, the Secretary will report on any issues of note, including up-coming events or on the outcome of any committee meetings held since the last meeting.
Once these formalities are out of the way, there is a chance to make the presentations from the previous match. We generally pay-out a token sum to first, second and third places along with a winner take all "2s" pot.
Membership
We have around 20 full members plus a couple of honorary members. Although, for various reasons, members can only join at the AGM, we do welcome applications to join from keen golfers of all abilities.
We find that the best approach is to join us for one of our meetings where you can get to know us. From there, we can usually make room for non-members to play on most matches by pre-arrangement.
If you've played a few games with us and you still want to join, then you're clearly unbalanced and should fit in nicely.
Competitions
Throughout the year, there are a number of competitions for which qualifying matches contribute points. These competitions provide an additional level of interest, since even if an individual match isn't going too well, there is the possibility of a good score on one hole making a contribution to your annual Eclectic score, or perhaps the points earned might just make the difference in the "Golfer of the year" competition.
