Changes to the Committee
Mark Taylor - 18 June 2009During the meeting held on the 17th June, the following appointments were made to the committee:
Treasurer: Glyn Denman
Competition Secretary: Jack Hughes
As Glyn manfully stepped forwards to take on the role of treasurer (with hardly any threats required), this meant that the position of Competition Secretary became vacant. Jack kindly agreed to take on this role.
I'm sure that you will all join me in offering a vote of thanks to both Glyn and Jack for taking on this work
Treasurer Resigns
Paul Kelsall - 05 June 2009As some of you are now aware, after 17 years as the treasurer of the Red Lion Golf Society Don has decided to resign from the position and from the society. I'm sure we would all like to express our gratitude for his dedication over the years. I know only too well it's a thankless task.
Well, we now need a new treasurer, so any member wishing to put his name in the hat please do so as soon as possible. We would like to think that the new treasurer would be in place by the next meeting in two weeks time. You can let us know in the usual way.
Once again thanks to Don for all his hard work.
Committee Meeting Feedback
Mark Taylor - 02 April 2009A committee meeting was held on Tuesday 31st March.
Present: Paul Kelsall, Glyn Denman, Don Kelly, Trip Jackson, Mick Daines, Mark Taylor. Apologies: Clive Hughes
The main topic for discussion was the financial state of the society and the prospects for subsidising games in the coming year. The treasurer's report, projecting to the end of the year, forecasts that there will be sufficient funds to cover deposits for next season leaving a surplus to subsidise games throughout this year.
The following decisions were taken:
- Society members will be charged a maximum of £20 for each game in the coming season. The society will pay the remainder of the green-fee
- The 3 main away-day matches will not be fully subsidised. Instead members will be charged £20. This will cover £10 towards green fees and £10 for the prize fund. The society will pay the remainder of the green fee and food costs (where booked by the society).
- A decision regarding subsidy of the Fur and Feather will be taken nearer the time.
It is common for members to be unable to attend away-days and so miss out on some, if not all of the subsidy money. It was felt that this re-allocation of subsidy money would ensure a fairer distribution of club funds.
A word from the secretary
Paul Kelsall - 14 March 2009The new season is almost upon us now, just a few gentle reminders to ensure the year goes as smoothly as possible.
Can all members who intend to play one of the fixtures ensure that they attend the meeting on the wednesday before, or that they inform a committee member in person or by telephone that they intend to play by the same cut off date. We have incurred deposits this year in excess of £1000 and don't want to lose any by players not turning up on the day. Of course, we always have better meeting when more members turn up to meetings.
Also to take note of this year is our dress code amendment, we can adopt the course dress code but certain things still apply, ie, no trainers to be worn at any time either in the club house or on the course no matter what the course dress code is.
Finally can we all try to keep up with subs this year, with so much having left society coffers in deposit money, we need to keep the account bang up to date so that subsidies can be paid at all the usual venues.
